Operation Go Home
OGH provides assistance to street youth and their families over the telephone, in our offices, and on the street. Our telephone lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. Our offices are open for drop-ins and appointments. Our street patrols seek out the youth in need who are living on or working the streets.
OGH front-line services are provided by trained volunteers and staff, many of who have diplomas or certificates in social work from accredited institutions.
Some of the things we do are:
- Counselling for street youths and runaways -- and their families. We act as a liaison with parents and youth to encourage communication and reunite the family, and if that is not in their best interest, then we suggest alternatives.
- Provide transportation for runaways to their home or community when required.
- Identify and initiate contact with street youth during street patrols -- providing food, basic necessities and referrals to other agencies for assistance with food, shelter, education, employment or financial support.
- Provide awareness and prevention education through presentations at schools, community service groups, etc..
- Provide social services, educational placements, and training.
